my friends free accord coupe. Drivers window won’t stay up, drivers seat is ripped to bits, side bolster is torn so your back automatically hits metal, it won’t stay up, the center console was covered in some moldy substance, the rear view mirror was cracked, the windshield was cracked, the cup holders had years old soda(?) remains, the speakers were blown, the radio was broken, and it had an odor of cats and cigarettes

if you’re asking what I think was the worst interior from the factory, I’d have to say the 2007 Dodge Caliber. I had one as a rental. What a piece of shit. First off, the entire interior was one uniform color. It was just a sea of medium tan. Second, it was the typical Daimler-era cost cut to the bone grade of plastics; they skimped on the pigments and UV protection so the plastic looked like dyed milk jugs (and I’m surprised they didn’t just make the seats out of hard plastic too). Third, they clearly took a ton of shortcuts on the injection mold tooling since parts like the pillar trim panels already had flash on the edges- and this was the first model year of a brand new car! Lastly, it just looked nasty. It was as if Daimler believed “shapes” were more expensive, so Chrysler group interiors had to be all straight lines and flat surfaces. I couldn’t find a good photo of a tan one, so here’s the “Sea of Gray” one:

I’d have to say my own Blazer. I don’t hate it, but objectively it’s definitely the worst. Poorly put together, three different types of fasteners used for zero reason whatsoever, and good god the rattles. It sounds like there are vast quantities of loose hard plastic between every interior panel and the body, the rattling is louder than the road noise with all-terrains. The “wood” trim is also pretty hilarious.

You nailed it with the Cinquecento Sporting. My biggest gripe is that the seats and steering aren’t colourfast. Ruined a lot nice shirts unti I relaized what caused it. And the general build quality was laughable at best. I had to drive them when I was delivering pizzas. The problems we had with brand new cars were ridiculous.

A combination of 1999-ish Corolla (so dreary and depressing) and Dodge Magnum (1990s Renault Twingo plastic in a car that size/prize, combined with seats meant for the obese and easy worn out materials).
Both of these aren’t the objectively worst, but they are the most disappointing. Worst is a Suzuki Alto.

I posted about this last week . I think the picture speaks for itself. A base trim 2011 Renault Clio is a close second just because so much hard plastic. Also I didn’t really fit in it.

Question is, why would you need a tach in a truck? Even with a manual gearbox, it’s not like you’d be looking at it when pulling away.

Pulling away isn’t and just driving around isn’t so much an issue as when to upshift 1-2. The thing makes such a terrible groaning noise that it is really hard to tell when you’re at the redline. I’ve hit the rev limiter so many times in first that I basically just gave up and just use the fuel cutoff as a sign that I should shift.
Also, lack of tach is just pretty low on the list of things wrong with this interior.

Former S10 owner here. Everything you said is spot on. I feel the same way too about they layout and style being OK, but the construction lets it down. Half of my button labels were worn off by 70,000 miles too.
And yeah the photo does go upside down when you click to expand it. I’ve been seeing this a lot recently - typical Kinja weirdness.

Friends $600 ‘95 Mustang. On top of the 90s Ford cheapness the power driver's seat (literally the ONLY power thing in the car) doesn't work, the steering wheel has to have a cover on it because there's chunks missing out of it, and the passenger airbag cover is peeling off.

I feel like it was probably added by the dealer, it's also surrounding the door handles on the inside. I can't find anything else like it on google, so probably not factory

Yeah if they’d tried a little harder, it could be a totally different story. I mean, I had to stop on a rough logging road once in the dark to pull the dash apart and plug the headlight switch back in. Who designs a switch with so little holding it in, that using your 4x4 as it should be used, makes the switch fall out?
On my phone it expands right side up, imagine it's just a mobile thing not translating all to desktop, so yeah. Kinja weirdness

I can’t think of an interior that was inherently bad. We have a Blazer patrol vehicle at work we use as a spare when our better cars are in the shop. Its a 01 I think with 150k miles. The mechanicals suck - loud, groany, power steering pump whine, shit brakes, etc. - but the interior has aged terribly. Seats hold so much dust that a cloud appears when the door is closed, the windshield is tiny, the seats are uncomfortable, the radio buttons aren’t backlit at night, the arm rests are at terrible positions and angles, etc.
If I get the keys to that POS I’d rather do bike or foot patrol all day. And that really means something - I’m really lazy.

2000ish Nissan Altima. My legs could be comfortable or I could reach the steering wheel. Not both. Had to drive it for 600 miles straight. My back hurt afterwards. Few months later my dad drove it for 400 miles, saw a chiropractor, flew back and had someone else drive the car.

1984 Subaru GL Wagon. The vents wouldn’t point below shoulder height, so if you wanted cool air, it always blew in your face. HATED IT!!
If it weren’t for that, I could have lived with it. I’m fine with basic, no-nonsense interiors.

I’m going to cheat a bit on this one. When I was in middle school, this was my school “bus”. A Soviet RAF 2203:
Ours was from the ‘70s and it’s hard to find a picture of an interior that old, but suffice to say the speedometer did the whole bouncing thing that you sometimes see on really old tractors and trucks.
Nothing even comes close to Soviet interior quality, especially when they tried their hand at plastics, which the RAF had more of that some of the GAZ jeeps.

My B-3000 has a tachometer. Handy for determining engine speed in different gears when using the engine as a brake on long downhills. That being said, I learned on a truck without a tach. It’s easy to tell when to shift unless you are trying to wring every last HP out of it by running it up to the redline (which you can’t see).

Nah, it was an option that netted you ten years hard labor for having capitalist sympathies, but only of you were the first owner. So to get around it, the first owner always seemed to be someone deceased, and they somehow owned the car before it was made. So all of them are “inherited".

Dustbuster vans, I’ve driven a couple. Not only were the materials and quality of construction some of the worst to ever be foisted by the General onto consumers, but the seating/pedal positioning was incredibly uncomfortable. You basically had to bend your right foot so far back to get to the gas pedal, that it felt like your ankle was going to break.
Mind you, I am not a tough critic when it comes to interiors. Most of my vehicles have been GM products, and the S-10/Blazer interiors that others have complained about, didn’t bother me a bit. The dustbuster vans were a whole ‘nother level of aweful.
